Predicting The Final 53 On The Broncos Roster

Denver Broncos – The Final 53

As training camp rockets toward it’s second week and with preseason less than 7 days away, I thought I’d attempt the impossible task of predicting the 53 players that will hopefully lead the Broncos to Super Bowl 50. After many failed attempts to get the squad down from 90 to 53, I looked at the Ravens breakdown from 2014 and it was a 25 offense and 25 defense split with a kicker, punter and long snapper.

Here are the 25 offensive players with positions I have selected:

QUARTERBACK (x2)

  • Peyton Manning
  • Brock Osweiler

RUNNING BACK (x3)

  • C.J Anderson
  • Montee Ball
  • Juwan Thompson

FULLBACK (x1)

  • Joe Don Duncan

TIGHT-END (x3)

  • Owen Daniels
  • Virgil Green
  • Dominique Jones

WIDE RECEIVER (x6)

  • Demaryius Thomas
  • Emmanuel Sanders
  • Cody Latimer
  • Solomon Patton
  • Jordan Taylor
  • Nathan Palmer

TACKLE (x4)

  • Ty Sambrailo
  • Paul Cornick
  • Chris Clark
  • Ryan Harris

GUARD (x4)

  • Shelley Smith
  • Ben Garland
  • Louis Vasquez
  • Max Garcia

CENTER (x2)

  • Gino Gradkowski
  • Matt Paradis

I think the Broncos with their run first philosophy will be adopting 21 and 12 formations more frequently so they may keep James Casey or maybe Michael Schofield instead of Taylor or Palmer.

Here are the 25 defensive players with positions I have selected.

DEFENSIVE LINE (x6)

  • Derek Wolfe
  • Malik Jackson
  • Vance Walker
  • Antonio Smith
  • Sly Williams
  • Darius Kilgo

LINEBACKERS (x9)

  • Von Miller
  • Shaquill Barrett
  • Danny Trevathan
  • Brandon Marshall
  • Reggie Walker
  • Lamin Barrow
  • Todd Davis
  • Demarcus Ware
  • Shane Ray

DEFENSIVE BACKS (x10)

  • Chris Harris Jr
  • Aquib Talib
  • Bradley Roby
  • Kayvon Webster
  • Tony Carter
  • Lorenzo Doss
  • Darian Stewart
  • T.J Ward
  • David Bruton
  • Josh Furman

Defense was my biggest headache putting this squad together. There are so many combinations based on flexibility or special team needs. I think Doss and Furman make the team as they were drafted as hybrid players capable of playing safety, linebacker and nickel. With the flexibility of Roby added to the mix at safety, I think the Broncos defense will be able to disguise a lot of plays based on personnel. With the 3-4 defense disguising blitzes over a cover 3 shell, I believe the Broncos will be extremely successful in the base personnel package. My only concern is with Wolfe suspended can the Broncos limit the productivity of the opposing run offense on first down.

Special teams will stay the same as it ended last season with Connor Barth as Kicker, Britton Colquitt at Punter and Aaron Brewer as the long snapper.

Anybody reading this I challenge to have a go yourself and before the Baltimore game kicks off we can compare 53’s.
