Broncos Training Camp Review – Day 2

Day two of the 2017 Denver Broncos training camp is in the books. That means there is only one more practice before we see the players going at it in pads for the first time on Sunday.

Today Paxton Lynch got his chance to start working with the first string offence, and he took his opportunity by the scruff of the neck. The first 11-on-11 practice of the year saw Paxton Lynch throw a terrific deep pass to Cody Latimer in between two defenders, which many reported to be the pass of the day. Lynch also showed off his dual threat ability today, with a pump fake before rolling out and outrunning the defence for a 50 yard score. He showed a real quickness that didn’t always seem to be there last year as he often got trapped in the pocket. Paxton did nearly get picked off on one occasion by Aqib Talib in the end zone, but it was another good showing from Lynch.

Trevor Siemian in the meantime was working with the second string offence, and had another up and down day. He did throw the first touchdown of the day to Jordan Taylor, before struggling and getting intercepted by Bradley Roby on a pass intended for Emmanuel Sanders. Siemian managed to regroup and finished practice strongly with back-to-back touchdowns to CJ Anderson and then Jordan Taylor once again.

New Running Back Stevan Ridley was out on the field, and opened up working with Lynch and Siemian along with CJ Anderson, Jamaal Charles and Juwan Thompson. Charles was once again wearing a brace on his knee and is still trying to get comfortable. If he doesn’t, he will likely get rid of it soon.

Von Miller looked at his best, absolutely dominating Ty Sambrailo and Menelik Watson in pass rushing one-on-one’s. Von also took some time out to field punts, adding an extra dynamic to his game perhaps? The first mini-fight of camp was between Chris Harris Jr. and Demaryius Thomas, with Harris Jr. saying after practice, “my intensity is always ten.” He also offered his view on the QB situation, as he said “they are pretty up and down right now. It’s hard, they are going up against us – a top secondary in the league.”

So, just one more day before training camp really kicks into action as the players don their pads for the first time on Sunday. Feel free to tweet us @UKBroncosUK with any queries or thoughts on training camp, and don’t forget to use the #BroncosUK.
